Student engagement and cultural competence in nursing students

摘要
Objective: To establish a correlation between the level of involvement nursing students have during clinical practice and their ability to demonstrate cultural competency.Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Applied Nursing Undergraduate Study Program, Indonesia and om sampling was used to enroll 250 participants. A self-reporting questionnaire was administered to gather data, which were analyzed using SPSS.Results: The mean score of student engagement was 73.68 (SD:6.769) and cultural competence was significant 55.76 (SD:4.182). Student engagement showed a high association with the cultural competence (p<0.001).Conclusion: This study highlighted that nursing student highly engage in skill, emotional, participation and performance. The development of cultural competence in awareness, knowledge, skill, and sensitivity was at medium level. It is essential for nursing instructors to comprehend inclusion of students.
