CONTRASTIVE LINGUISTICS AS A BASIS FOR RESEARCH IN SIGN LANGUAGE DICTIONARIES: LIBRAS AND LSE

This article aims to present some theoretical assumptions of Contrastive Linguistics in the analysis carried out in some entries in the online sign language dictionary Spread the Sign, focusing on the differences and similarities found in the corresponding sign lexicons. The entries under analysis in this work refer to the mottos: TEACHER, MEETING, LEARNING, INTELLIGENT and MATHEMATICS, contrasting these entries between the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) and the Spanish Sign Language (LSE). The problem evaluated here uses a qualitative approach that describes and contrasts the classifications and categorizations of signals, based on Lexicography and Contrastive Linguistics. The research results indicate that the lexical aspects in signs have similar characteristics, which is the purpose of applying Contrastive Linguistics for the analysis of Sign Language dictionaries and for teaching foreign/additional languages. From the above, it is concluded that the analysis of the vocabularies reveals that the signs present interruptions from sign languages, with some similarities and differences, highlighting the variations and influences of European sign languages. However, it is important to highlight that each country has its own sign language, with distinct grammatical characteristics and its own vocabulary.
