摘要
This study presents an overview of various material degradation processes of materials due to the flow of liquids and slurries. This paper presents a general introduction to various aspects of surface erosion in hydraulic machinery. Wear continuously occurs in components of different hydraulic machinery installed in thermal- and hydro-power plants. Various components of hydraulic machinery deteriorate due to the mechanical action of flowing media hence their life minimizes. So, the protection or maintenance of hydraulic machinery becomes essential after an uncertain period. Maintenance generally increases the life span of machinery for a small time but requires additional cost and work downtime. Therefore, there is a necessity to govern the wear phenomenon by optimizing the effect of influencing parameters. In this paper, a comprehensive discussion has been also made on the different wear processes of hydraulic machinery. Various wear models are discussed for pumps, pipelines, and turbines. Computational fluid dynamics analysis of hydraulic machinery is the major take from this review paper. The present study could be beneficial in the prediction as well as prevention of erosion, abrasion, and corrosion in various components of machinery. This paper also covers the types of wear, mechanisms of erosion wear, and different techniques to minimize the surface erosion wear of different materials.
