Proponents of a hydrogen economy argue that liquid hydrogen could power cars, ships and planes. It could also fuel carbonhungry industries such as steelmaking; all without releasing a single molecule of CO2. Some even argue that hydrogen could be used to heat our homes. The H21 North of England initiative envisages converting the domestic gas supply of 3.7m households to hydrogen, starting in 2028.
