In the same boat? An analysis of the theological-pastoral perspectives of the international ecumenical movement for inter-religious dialogue

The text presents research results on theological-pastoral perspectives of the international ecumenical movement for inter-religious dialogue. Methodologically, the analysis was carried out based on the following steps: (i) the identification of a historical milestone with the outstanding World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland ( 1910), which, although dealing with the strengthening of Protestant Christian missions, opened horizons for the consideration of Christianity's relationship to non-Christian religions; (ii) a synthesis of ecumenical engagement in the promotion of peace and fair relations between religions during the decades of the 20th century, with emphasis on events, pronouncements and theological positions of the World Council of Churches (WCC) regarding inter-religious dialogue; (iii) summary description of ecumenical activities, initiatives and projects that, directly or indirectly, favor dialogue and cooperation between religions; (iv) summary of recent WCC documents and guidance materials on interfaith themes and experiences.
