Despite the high probability of youth with developmental disorders participating as interviewees in an investigative interview, the characteristics of suggestibility in youth with developmental disorders that are related to their suggestibility are not well understood. Thus, our study aimed to investigate whether age, free recall ability, or other behavioral characteristics influence the level of suggestibility in children and adolescents with developmental disorders. Our findings showed that suggestibility in youth with developmental disorders was associated with abilities related to prosocial behavior, such as altruism or empathy, but not with age and free recall ability. These results elucidate the unique characteristics of suggestibility in youth with developmental disorders and highlight the need to improve the specialized protocol of investigative interviews with this specific population.
