摘要
Records show that Meghalaya is a state receiving heavy rainfall in the world. Despite having abundant rainfall, it has become a regular phenomenon to hear about springs and rivulets drying up or incidents of reduced discharge of rainfall largely due to anthropogenic stress, climate change and ecological degradation associated with land use change for infrastructural development causing pressures on the hill aquifer systems have rendered several areas in this state confronted with serious water scarcity. In view of this paradox of water scarcity amidst plenty, based on direct experience and primary local perspectives in addition to available data this paper will analyze the lack of potable water in Meghalaya.
