One hundred years ago (22 September 1923) saw the foundation of the Sugar Industry Research Institute in Prague. The article talks about the beginnings of sugar research from 1812, the research station of the sugar association founded in Prague in 1859 and the sugar research station founded in 1896 at the Prague Polytechnic. Above all, however, it describes the history of the Institute, the important figures connected with its activities as well as the results and impact. The institute was founded in Prague - Stresovice and in 1951 it changed districts and moved to Modrany. In 1996 it was transformed into a joint stock company bearing the name "VUC Praha".
