The History of Africa in Spain. Towards new research fields?

For some years now, the field of Contemporary History research has been in a process of overcoming Eurocentric History, where interest in the past of other societies has grown significantly. In this broadening of the historian's geographical field of study, the African continent occupies an increasingly important place. In this research we intend to carry out a brief review of research on the history of Africa in our country in recent decades. The final aim is to take stock of the situation of History and African Studies, its clear interdisciplinary nature and the subjects analysed. To this end, an analysis will be carried out in three stages: African studies under Franco's regime and the founding of the Institute of African Studies (1945-1983); the resurgence of this field of study with the so-called "pioneers" since the end of the 1980s; and the current situation with a generation of new researchers in the last decade..
