Spraying SiO2- PMMA Warehousing Protective Layer onto AISI 1036 Steel with Barrier Properties at Atmospheric Pollutants

摘要
In this work, a hybrid coating based on a metal oxide and a polymer with barrier properties to atmospheric pollutants was synthe-sized by sol-gel at a room temperature of 25 C-degrees. The inorganic precursors of the metallic oxide were tetraethylorthosilicate:Ethanol: Water 0.1:0.4:1.2 molar ratio respectively. 100 ml of methyl methacrylate with 0.4 g of benzoyl peroxide were used as a polymer precursor to catalyze the free radical polymerization. As a result, homogeneous films were obtained on AISI 1036 steel substrates which were deposited by the spray method. Moreover, for the substrates which were prepared with chemical cleaning under the G1 standard of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) the thickness of the hybrid coating obtained was 30 mu m, with any drying treatment. These hybrid coatings are well adhered to the metallic substrate with adhesion grade 5B according to ASTM Standard D3359 and have high transparency in the visible range with 95% T and anticorrosive capacity of-472.44 mV which was evaluated by both the electrochemical technique of Open Circuit Potential (OCP) and Polarization Curves detecting no ion ex-change and a hybrid coating that generates the protection between the AISI 1036 steel and the electrolyte solution.
