摘要
This article delves into the process of abolition of Atlantic slavery, during the first re- publican decades that followed the independence of the Hispanic territories; moment in which incipient forms of institutionalization of abolitionism appeared. We propose to study New Granada as an emblematic case in the Hispanic South Atlantic, during the period of republican gradual abolitionism (1819-1849). In particular, we analyze slave practices in the period, emphasizing slave resistance and manumissions as main manifestations of agency, which promoted access to freedom, increased the number of freedmen and generated multiple tensions that led to a crisis of slavery and the implementation of abolitionist measures.
