Cylindrical quasi-omnidirectional multibeam antenna based on spoof surface plasmon polaritons

摘要
Spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) are capable of propagating on metallic surfaces, while suffering energy leakage on curved surfaces. A new approach to designing SSPPs antennas is proposed that exactly exploits the curvature-induced leakage to induce multi-beam radiation. The antenna geometry consists of a subwavelength periodic block chain on a curved metallic surface for guiding the propagation and outward radiation of the SSPPs, resulting in a multi-beam radiation pattern with a maximum gain of 7.36 dBi. The antenna works from 10.02 to 11.08 GHz with two wavelengths in diameter size. Moreover, two SSPPs antennas are merged together as a dual-antenna pair for quasi-omnidirectional radiation, which covers up to 360 degrees with the gain above 0 dBi.
