摘要
Aluminium alloy AA2519 has been successfully utilized in military vehicles, including advanced amphibious assault vehicles (AAAV), for the purpose of achieving weight reductions, superior ballistic properties, and excellent stress corrosion cracking (SCC) resistance. Friction stir welding (FSW) is exclusively utilized for joining different parts of this material to manufacture desired components for the targeted applications. On the other hand, studies on the corrosion behavior of the FS-welded material are scarce. In this work, using indigenous AA2519-T87 plates, friction stir welding was carried out to evaluate and compare the electrochemical behavior of the base alloy with that of the welded joint. The results showed significant improvement in the pitting corrosion resistance of the welded joints. These results were correlated with the considerable changes in the microstructure of the welded joints produced during the FSW process.
