Selectivity of Laser-Induced versus IET-Induced Carbene Formation from Methoxydiazofluorene on Ag(111)

摘要：

We compare the electron-induced dissociation of individual 3-methoxy-diazofluorene molecules by electrons from an STM tip to that of large-scale dissociation by laser light. While both excitation sources dissociate the molecule, the product is found at the same position for photolytic dissociation but displaced by up to 4 nm for STM-tip-induced dissociation. Our study demonstrates that a well-defined row of carbenes can be formed by laser illumination on a surface.
