摘要
Our study aimed to analyze relationships between decision-making based on the recognition-primed decision model, and emotions, based on appraisal theory, for a basketball coach. It exemplifies an attempt to link two theoretical frameworks using a mixed method. A composite self-confrontation interview was conducted following a high-level competitive match. Thirty-five decision moments, significant for the coach, were identified using the critical incident method. A theoretical qualitative analysis was carried out to identify decision mechanisms and emotions. A statistical analysis of the associations between these qualitative variables was conducted. The results suggest a relationship between decision-making processes and emotions. Specific relationships are identified between decision mechanisms and some emotions, supporting three modalities of coach functioning. In this study, the linking of two theoretical frameworks was highlighted by an "integrative" mixed method, feeding perspectives and hypotheses recently identified in the naturalistic decision-making approach. Conditions for linking the frameworks and implementing the mixed method are discussed in the light of a constructivist and pragmatic epistemological positioning.
