A gap Waveguide-Fed Dual-Circularly polarized antenna array for K-band applicaions

摘要
This article presents a 64-element dual-circularly polarized antenna array oriented by gap waveguide technology for K-Band applications. The proposed design is a 4 x 4 sub-array, each consisting of 2 x 2 patch antennas stimulated by a cavity through a cross-shaped slot. A gap waveguide-based feed layer is utilized to feed the cavity in two directions with a 90 degrees phase difference. The main advantage of using gap waveguide technology is the capability to remove the need for electrical contact within the structure layers. Based on the obtained results, the proposed antenna array occupies a size of 11 x 11 x 1.4 cm3 and operates within the frequency range of 20.11 to 22.36 GHz. The array has an impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 10.6%, axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 8.2%, and a maximum gain of 20 dBi at 21.25 GHz. Overall, the proposed antenna array can be used for satellite communication systems operating in the K-band.
