AN APPROACH TO INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE FROM A PERPETRATOR'S PERSPECTIVE

Currently, in order to address the phenomenon of intimate partner violence, an integral perspective is needed, which focuses on making the study of the aggressors more relevant and inclusive. Therefore, the objective of the present research is to approach the reality of four men accused of hurting their partners, in order to understand from their perspective the different factors that influence the construction of their masculinity and the instrumental use of violence against their partners. Methodological work was carried out through in-depth interviews and three analytical categories emerged from their analysis. These categories were: Factors that mediate violence against partners, Interpretation of the violent act, and Gender identity and masculinity. It is concluded that the phenomenon of intimate partner violence is based on the multi -causality of diverse social and relational factors and elements of traditional masculinity.
