In-Situ assembly of Titanium-Mesh-Supported Platinum-Ruthenium(IV) oxide for High-Efficiency acidic overall water splitting

High-energy-density hydrogen is recognized as an ideal choice for a sustainable energy economy. Efficient and stable catalysts are crucial for electrochemical hydrogen production. Herein, we report that Pt-RuO2 assemble on a titanium mesh support as the carrier, forming a Pt-RuO2/Ti ME. The prepared Pt-RuO2/Ti ME brought exceptional performance in both the OER and HER; with a low overpotential of only 188 and 49 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte, respectively. The overall water electrolysis performance was also ameliorated with a double-working electrode system, which needed a potential of only 1.48 V toward delivering 10 mA cm-2 in 0.5 M H2SO4 with remarkable sustainability for 72 h at 20 mA cm-2. The durability of PtRuO2/Ti ME was attributed to the strong interactions between the catalysts and conductive carrier, which minimized the negative influence of O2 or H2 on the surface of catalyst.
