Protective Effect of Quercetin on Haematology and Flesh Quality in Labeo rohita Against Aflatoxin B1

摘要
The present study evaluates quercetin's competitive interaction with aflatoxin B-1 by testing its effects on haematology and flesh quality in rohu (Labeo rohita) for 90 days. The fingerlings were divided into five groups (D1, negative control), 100 ppb AFB(1) (D2, positive control), 25 ppb AFB(1) + 200 mg QC (D3), 50 ppb AFB(1) + 200 mg QC (D4) and 100 ppb AFB(1) + 200 mg QC (D5). The study was carried out in fibre-reinforced plastic pools with three replicates for each group. The results showed that diet supplementation of D3 led to a significant improvement in the tested haematological indices and in the flesh quality. Overall results suggest that dietary supplementation of QC could somehow positively influence the health status of L. rohita fingerlings and help to manage or counteract aflatoxin toxicity at some level and hence could be an important bioactive flavonoid for sustainability and behave as a strong antioxidant.
