Community of inquiry and community of the common: notes for thinking philosophy in the classroom

his paper aims to introduce the concept of community of the common in the field of philosophy didactics and philosophy in primary school, based on Walter Kohan's conceptual formulation of the thought experience. From this presentation, it is argued that a thought experience constructs a community of the common and vice versa. The text is divided into three parts. The first part analyzes the concept of thought experience proposed by Kohan, explaining its potential and scope. The second section provides a brief description of the concept of a community of inquiry within the Philosophy for Children Program (Filosofia para Ninos ), discussing the possibilities and limitations of this form of community. Following that, the concept of community of the common is introduced to address some of the limitations of the community of inquiry, describing the distinctive elements of this type of community. Finally, the central ideas of the paper are summarized, and the connections between thought experience and the community of the common are explored.
