Digital competencies in students of Education careers in Ecuador

Currently, it is important to develop digital competencies in university students who are preparing to become teachers and participate in a digital society. This study analyzes the level of mastery of digital competencies of university students in Ecuador. The research is descriptive and a questionnaire was administered (n=778). The results reveal that the student gives priority to research and information management, presenting difficulties in the development and adaptation of technological materials and in the creation and adaptation of digital content. Male university students of Education claim to have better digital competencies, but the situation is not the same for those who are studying Intercultural Bilingual Education. This analysis makes it possible for Higher Education Institutions to make decisions in the planning, development and acquisition of digital competencies of the future education professional.
