摘要
This Review explores the tremendous potential of borophene in revolutionizing the landscape of next-generation batteries. As the demand for high performance energy storage systems continues to rise, conventional materials face limitations in terms of energy density, charge-discharge rates, and overall stability. Borophene, with its unique atomic structure and exceptional properties, emerges as a promising candidate for addressing these challenges. We delve into the structural properties and electrochemical characteristics of borophene, highlighting its potential application in advanced battery technologies. By investigating the latest research findings, we discuss the superiority of borophene as an anode electrode in battery systems, especially its remarkable charge storage capacity and faster ion diffusion. Furthermore, we outline the key challenges and potential strategies for optimizing borophene-based battery design by demonstrating the challenges with borophene and how to overcome its limitations by engineering through the strategy of the construction of heterostructures for application in metal-ion batteries. This is a call for multidimensional exploration that marries the transformative potential with inherent challenges.
