摘要
In 1960, Madeline Anderson composed Integration Report 1, a nation-spanning chronicle of desegregation and Black liberation efforts at the dawn of a new and pivotal decade for civil rights in America. Drawing on a new interview with Anderson, this essay details the making of her landmark film (the first of a trio of essential protest documentaries) and analyzes how the director and her collaborators interweave and mobilize various formal elements to cinematically portray the struggle for equality being waged at the time of production.
