摘要
The study addresses the importance of psychoanalysis on culture in its anthropological sense, bringing a case study of the Babacu Coconut Breakers Movement, a traditional community that has been fighting for legal protection of their traditions. The objective is to demonstrate the relation of psychoanalysis with social and cultural conflicts. To achieve the result, the concept of culture within the anthropological context and its relation with traditional knowledge is explored, exploring Freudian ideas about the cultural institution, the individual and its relations in groups. At the end it presents the case study of the babassu coconut breakers' movement, demonstrating that the theory of psychoanalysis is related to the cultural conflicts experienced today. It concludes that an organized civilization only exists when they impose limits to the hostile instincts (drives) and natural instincts of man, for this reason they create institutions and orders with the task of defending the collectivity against the individual himself.
