This article considers the historical past of the Turkmen clan Garaahmet of the Teke tribe. The chronological scope of the study is limited to a time period covering the 18th and 19th centuries. This time is very important for the past of the Teke tribe, as it characterizes the situation because of which they had to migrate to the southern regions of present-day Turkmenistan. In the Turkmen historical science, attempts were made to cover the history of a particular tribe or tribal unions, but the description of the history of a single small clan and its smaller divisions was never touched upon. In this study, the author decided to focus on the analysis of the past of the Turkmen clan Garaahmet of the Teke tribe. This small clan played an important role in the history of not only the Teke tribe, but also the entire Turkmen people. The clan's bright persons made a significant contribution to the rich history of the Turkmen people. The aim of this study was an attempt to highlight the historical situation of that time and analyze the complex processes that befell the Turkmen tribes. The objective of the work was to correctly and objectively describe the reality of the time when outstanding personalities entered the arena. Their extraordinary and outstanding abilities helped the Turkmens, through military actions and diplomatic tricks, to balance on the claims of the Khiva Khanate and Persia to these territories. The author used a comprehensive research method, with the connection of all kinds of historiographical material, archaeological and ethnographic data. The result of the study is that the author managed to restore, when possible, the images of prominent persons of the Garaahmet clan. It was possible to prove that Oraz Yagly Khan had not two, but three sons: Sakhat Niyaz Khan, Berdy Niyaz Khan and Aman Niyaz Khan. The author described the image of Mayla Khan and other persons of the Garaahmet clan, and also tried to present the historical situation of that time and understand the complex processes that took place within the clan and the entire Teke tribe. The tribal structure characteristic of all Turkmen tribes was the framework that helped to cement the social structure of the Garaakhmet clan. Such a situation was the basic system of society and was the "template" that explained the behavior of the whole society, in one or another historical reality. Identification of extraordinary persons and a description of their role in society allows us to more correctly comprehend their decisions and actions in the realities of that time. This approach gives rise to new questions, the answers to which, in turn, evoke new responses, and hence a more modern view of the history of the Turkmen people.
