Photogeneration of Singlet Oxygen on the Surface of TiO2, Doped by Nitrogen and Non-Doped, under UV- and VIS-Irradiation

摘要
The paper presents the results of investigation of singlet oxygen formation provided by excitation of the photocatalysts titanium dioxide and nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide by UV- (355 nm) and visible (450 nm) radiation. The appearance of luminescence in the near infrared (NIR) region in both cases indicates the photogeneration of singlet oxygen. The observed short lifetime and large bathochromic shift of the luminescence spectrum indicate that the singlet oxygen appears in the adsorbed state. The presence of nitrogen dopant in the nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide sample has no appreciable effect on the quantum yield of singlet oxygen under visible irradiation when compared with the original titanium dioxide without nitrogen.
