摘要
Single-fluorophore genetically encoded calcium indicators(GECIs), such as GCaMP, are widely used tools to investigate neuronalactivity. Their primary advantage lies in their capability to providereal-time and highly sensitive responses to fluctuations in intracellularCa(2+) concentrations. This property is of particular importance whenstudying neuronal processes and ensembles wherein calcium signalsplay a crucial role in information transmission. This comprehensivereview focuses on the GCaMP family, encompassing an analysis oftheir various types, distinctive features, and potential applicationsfor visualizing neuronal activity. Special attention is given tothe ongoing advancements in GCaMP technology, specifically, theendeavors to expand their spectral properties and enhance theircapability to detect high-frequency spike activity.
