摘要
Electrical power systems are in constant transformation, more noticeably power distribution systems since the penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) has increased in recent years. DER penetration may lead to increased reverse power flows and overvoltages in low voltage (LV) networks causing deterioration of power quality and limiting the increase of DERs in distribution systems. Energy storage systems (ESSs) are useful to decrease reverse flows that cause thermal violations in distribution transformers and conductors. This study employs residential energy storage systems (RESS) to mitigate voltage and thermal violations, thereby enhancing the integration potential of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems on urban distribution feeders. In addition, the methodology used, which combines the OpenDSS distribution system simulation tool with Matlab to process the results in different PV penetration scenarios, is presented. Through this methodology, the feasibility of achieving a higher level of PV penetration through the implementation of RESS will be demonstrated.
