Microstructural, Mechanical and Wear Characterization of AA-2219/ Si3N4/ZrO2/Graphite Hybrid Composites for Automotive Applications

摘要
Introducing proper combinations of reinforcements into base material became a vital area of research in advanced materials engineering. These novel materials are having enriched strength and better wear characteristics. With this perspective, the present paper aimed at the development of AA-2219 hybrid composites by incorporating different proportions of silicon nitride (Si3N4), zirconium oxide (ZrO2) and graphite particulates using a stir casting route. Scanning electron microscopy along with EDS analysis, XRD analysis, hardness, impact, tensile and wear tests were performed on the fabricated composites. Microstructural studies revealed the uniform dispersion of the reinforcement in the base alloy. Further, the effects of the combinations of the reinforcements on mechanical properties and wear behaviour were explored.
