Settlement and residential segregation in south-south migration: Venezuelan migrants in Bogota-Colombia

The urban agglomeration of Bogota, the main recipient of Venezuelan migration and a prototypical case of south -south migration, is taken as a scenario to analyze the patterns of intra-metropolitan settlement of migrants, in a critical reading of their relationship with the possibilities of social integration. Through spatial analysis techniques and segregation indicators in the 2018 population and housing census, the concentration areas of the migrant population are identified, their relationship with the pre-existing forms of settlement (density and urban origin) is established and the segregation of the migrant population is evaluated. The results reveal low territorial segregation, but a higher concentration of the migrant population in already densely populated areas, with more affordable conditions for access to housing, although with significant urban deficits that can interfere in the relationship between proximity and integration.
