Current aspects of endocrine treatment of endometriosis and adenomyosis

In addition to the controlled, timely and indicated precision surgery, the medicinal treatment of endometriosis, particularly also as long-term treatment, is of utmost importance. The treatment should be as acurately targeted as possible and with few side effects. In the meantime, there are many strategies to achieve relief for patients, but hormonal therapy is the treatment of choice in the case of steroid hormone-dependent disease. The important drugs, such as oral contraceptives, the progestins and the new oral gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists, are prioritized and are presented in detail based on the current study situation.
