摘要
Agriculture systems worldwide need to adopt sustainable cropping solutions to deal with existing issues of malnutrition, food insecurity, resource depletion and lifestyle health issues. Millets offer one such solution as they have nutritional, environmental and economical superiority over the most common staple grains in India viz. rice and wheat. The present literature review attempts to study different segments of the existing value chain of millets. The novelty of this study lies in the fact that it clearly identifies issues preventing large-scale con-sumption of millets, indicates the mathematical approaches that can be used to arrive at the alluded short and long-term strategies for millet promotion and proposes a roadmap to bring back millets to urban and rural plates. The findings of this study advocate having an integrated approach to enhance value chain efficiencies and developing a comprehensive framework for millet promotion, considering socio-economic, environmental and health sustainability.
