摘要
The ongoing COVID-19 epidemic is a sad reflection that, even in today's developed countries, people are still prone to infectious diseases. Infectious diseases seem to be the primary cause of death globally. The higher cases of fungal infections (FIs) have become the leading cause of public health issues, intensified by an enhancement in host predisposition features. Developing novel and innovative carriers of these activities is crucial to fight FIs and deter drug resistance. Herbal extracts and their phytomedicines have recently significantly contributed to the healthcare field. The innovative techniques that have been studied to enhance herbal antifungal treatment and lessen the unfavourable effects of traditional drugs are summarised in this article. The ability of new drug delivery systems to increase bioavailability and antifungal action holds promise for addressing these limitations. Additionally, adding drugs to novel systems could significantly lessen their toxicity and improve the therapeutic benefits of herbal oils and extracts. Thus, utilising nanocarriers such as ethosomes, liposomes, transferosomes, phytosomes, and dendrimers effectively assists antifungal herbal compounds in delivering the herbal actives to the target site. The current review summarises the approaches to deliver herbal nanoformulations to enhance antifungal therapy and decrease side effects linked with conventional therapy. The article also focuses on the herbal nanocarriers, which have a proven potential to treat a variety of FIs caused due to different fungi.
