摘要
This study reviews the ground-modification techniques commonly used in the US and summarizes each such technique in relevant categories. The application of ground improvement techniques has been mentioned in various standards and reference manuals; however, this study briefly reviews the particular advantages and disadvantages of the main common ground improvement categories. Then, a step-by-step framework process is presented as a general guideline for the deep compaction method among other ground improvement techniques. The proposed framework summarizes the main components, relevant formulas, tables, and graphs that must be considered in deep compaction design. A practical case study located on the north and south sides of Infirmary Road in Vinton County, Ohio, discussed in detail to develop the compaction preliminary design using the step-by-step framework process as an example of the design process. The project specifications and geotechnical investigation test and results were presented and then all steps of the framework process were followed and presented in detail to provide the compaction preliminary design. This study will be useful for geotechnical design engineers who consider deep compaction among their design purposes in reviewing ground improvement techniques; however, the ground modification methods reference manual and relevant standards and references should be considered to ensure the use of correct ground improvement methods on complex sites and minimize development costs.
