摘要
In recent time, natural fiber-reinforced composites have captured the interest of researchers because of their multiple benefits, such as being lightweight and easy to obtain, affordability, non-toxicity, and eco-friendliness. The aim of the study is to analyze mechanical and hygroscopic characteristics of novel Grewia optiva/basalt fiber-based composites for structural applications. This study involves the preparation of five samples with different weight percentages of individual fibers (0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, and 12%) using a simple hand layup technique while maintaining the maximum fiber content at 12% of the composite. The study assesses the mechanical and hygroscopic characteristics of chemically modified and unmodified fiber-based composites, with an observed raise in tensile strength of 30 % for alkaline-treated Grewia optiva fiber-reinforced composites. Additionally, SEM is utilized to examine the fractured surface of the test specimen for tensile strength. The results suggest that alkaline treatment and increasing the weight percentage of basalt fiber improves mechanical and hygroscopic characteristics of developed composites.
