Study on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Spray Formed and Extruded Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy

摘要
The microstructure of spray formed and extruded Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy was observed, and the influence of strain rate and gauge thickness on the tensile properties was estimated. The results showed that the main precipitate phases in the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy included rod-shaped eta'-Mg(Zn, Cu)(2) phase, dark spherical clusters G.P. zones, coarse rod-shaped eta phase and Al3Zr particles in nanoscale. The tensile properties of spray formed and extruded alloy with larger specimen thickness and strain rate were relatively superior. The tensile strength reached 390.4-446.2 MPa, and the increased uniform elongation improved the overall ductility. All fracture surfaces exhibited a mixed mode of transgranular fracture and intergranular fracture. A low strain rate provided sufficient time for microporosity and microcrack to aggregate and propagate, and the microporosity was the primary fracture factor for the spray formed and extruded Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy.
