摘要
This informative summary of the bone formation marker procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (P1NP) is published as part of the series "Biomarkers" of the Zentralblatt fur Arbeitsmedizin, Arbeitsschutz und Ergonomie and is intended as a training tool for occupational physicians. It deals with the increasingly more frequent use of the determination of specificmarkers in so-called managerial screening and check-up examinations. The marker P1NP shows a high sensitivity and specificity but is generally not suitable as a screening parameter for early diagnosis or for prevention as it is a marker for monitoring treatment, progression and recurrence of bone metastases.
