Numerous alkane-α, ω-bisquaternary ammonium salts are pharmacologically active against various nerve systems, for instance, many of them have a blocking effect either on sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia or on motor end plate of skeletal muscles, whilst the others may inhibit the action of cholinesterasc. These compounds have a wide sphere of usefulness clinically.
