摘要：
Functional,or hysteric,mutism is a com-mon neurotic disorder characterized by totaldumbness assumed by the patient.39 females and 29 males afflicted withthe disorder were treated with acupunctureof the Yongquan point.Ages ranged 12 to60 years,with more than half around 20.Etiologically,all 68 patients experiencedemotional trauma before onset.ENT examina-tion failed to reveal any organic abnormality,yet all refused to speak but expressed theirdistress or desires by gestures or writing.
