During the Eighth Five-year Plan,remarkable success was achieved in China’s new high-tech industrial development areas. In 1996, in 52 state-level new high-tech development areas nationwide, there were 13,000 high-tech enterprises, with annual revenue of RMB229.7 billion and annual export earnings of US$4.27 billion.
