Cutaneous leishmaniasis is very rarely seen in Manchuria.Noneof my colleagues had ever met a case similar to the one to be described. On May 26,1941,a man,48 years of age, came to our outpatient department.Born in Shantung,he had lived in that province until he came to Mukden in April,1941.For two years he had noticed a hard slowly growing mass in the left hypochon-drium.The mass was not tender or painful. He also complained of chilliness andfeverishness and general weakness. On examination we found a very emaciated patient. There was no skin pig-mentation.He suffered from scabies pustulosa. The spleen was found to be verymuch enlarged, reaching down to the umbilicus.Laboratory examinations showedRBC.,3.6 mil.;hemoglobin(Sahli),60%;WBC.,2,187;sternal puncture,Leishman-Donovan bodies present.
