摘要
This paper first states the traditional view on English idioms and puts forward that idioms are analyzable and motivated,based on the three cognitive mechanisms of metaphor,metonymy and general knowledge for understanding the meanings of idioms from the perspective of cognitive semantics.Then it illustrates the implications for idiom teaching.
