<正> This article highlights three sources ofconcern about the way that uncertainty inour understanding of the climate system isportrayed to decision-makers.These con-cerns include a continued reliance on thecost-benefit paradigm to organize theirthoughts,the implicit acceptance of thenotion that uncertainty will decline overtime,and the persistent omission ofadaptation as a significant source ofuncertainty.These concerns are especiallytroubling if the cost-benefit approach todecision-making is emphasized at theexclusion of other methods that have beendesigned explicitly to accommodate un-
