摘要：
The adoption of communicative approach makes significant impact on the field of language teaching. This essay outlines the primary characteristics and assumptions underlying the communicative approach in language teaching and discusses the advantages as well as limitations of the communicative approach. It suggests that the communicative language teaching can be interpreted and applied in various ways.
