<正> Adoption involves the process by which the existing par-ents cease to be the legal parents of the child and theadopters are substituted for the parents as if the child wasborn to them. There are so many reasons for adoption, suchas inability to conceive, parents not wanting a child, andinability to provide circumstances essential for the child'shealthy development. However, as the number of childrenavailable for adoption in New Zealand decreases, an increas-ing number of couples look to overseas countries to adopt. Therefore, the transnational adoptions are becoming common.
