Before entering into a review of the History of Chinese Medicine it would be well for us to get our bearings with reference to Western medicine in the not distant past. The writer recalls that in his childhood a physician when called to a case, considered phlebotomy the first step in treatment, and this was frequently done before the patient’s condition was considered.
