Mary Shelley and her Frankenstein have been widely acclaimed and studied ever since her publication of the poignanttale. It tells the story of a young scientist Victor who makes great endeavor to create a hideous creature with the body parts of thedead but is later destroyed by his own creation. Identification, an important concept in the field of psychology, stands for the psy-chological process by which the subject assimilates a trait, property, or attribute of another subject and is converted completely orpartly by the model that another offers. This paper tries to probe into the painful search for his social identity by the Creature inFrankenstein in light of Freud’s identification theory.
