STUDIES ON SEPTICEMIA IN EXTENSIVE BURNS

Recent advances in the treatmentof burns have reduced the mortalityrate of extensive burns,but septicemiacontinues to be a great hazard to thelife of patients surviving the acutephase of burns.The prophylactic useof antibiotics has contributed furtherto the complexity of the problem,sinceit has been shown that most latedeaths are associated with septicemiadue to antibiotic-resistant staphylococciand gram-negative bacteria.More ex-tenaive studies on septicemia are thusnecessary in order to further improveburn therapy.
