The pesticide industry has always been oneof the main pollution sources of the chemical industry. According to statistics, by2007, China had become the world’s largestpesticide producer with a production capacityof 1.73 million tons. Currently, thereare more than 2 500 pesticide companies inChina which produce large amount of highlytoxic and highly concentrated waste gas andwaste water during their production. Thewaste water is of high chemical oxygen demand (COD) due to its high inorganic saltand organic chloride content, and it is hardto dispose of.
