摘要
This study investigates the effects of short video (SV) use on decision-making in older and younger adults, focusing on executive function as a mediator. In Study 1, 307 participants completed questionnaires, the Balloon Analogous Risk Task (BART), and the Game of Dice Task (GDT). Results showed that moderate SV use with rich content improved decision-making in older adults, while excessive use was detrimental. Study 2, involving 178 participants, examined the instant effects of 10-minute sessions of SV, television, or reading. SV viewing enhanced decision stability and risk preferences in older adults but impaired these in younger adults, with inhibitory control explaining the age-related differences. Limiting SV time and enriching content enhance decision stability and rationality across ages. The study highlights the need for platforms to provide diverse content and effective time management tools to optimize cognitive benefits and reduce risks of overuse.
